asthma+gluten and dairy NEW
by: Anonymous

I developed asthma symptoms in my 40's and no-one seemed able to work out why the asthma kept getting worse as the day went on. I was also losing wieght and was feeling very unwell . after 18 months i got told about celiac disease and unfortnatly didnt wait for tests, jst went straight off gluten. 1/2 the asthma went within 3 days . after a few months I stopped all dairy and almost all asthma disapeared. I still get a small amount with pollen and dust. also when i eat anything by mistake with barley in. otherwise i am so much better and have finaly put some weight back on. i have given up with specialists. Why couldnt they of told me to try this.I suffered for ages and they just shrugged and upped the dose of the inhalers.

Asthma and gluten free NEW
by: Susan B.

Although it is predominently dairy that has the most affect on asthma(I know if I were to have a milkshake that I would have a surge of mucus.) I personally have found that my asthma can be aggravated by gluten,as would my fibromyalgia and my skin. All these conditions are auto immune related and thus all subjected to the affect of many things, environmently or digested.

I was told that it was actually because of my 'undiagnosed Coeliac condition' that I developed asthma at the age of 40 yrs! It was all part ot the fact that my auto immune system was breaking down; just as my fibromyalgia stemmed from the coeliac and later my thyroid. I doubt very much that I will ever eliminate these conditons now as they are a direct consequence of the damage I incurred but I do know that I had a marked improvement esecially with my fibromyalgia.

Anything that will help to any degree is well worth doing; just a warning to people to be clear that they actually are gluten sensitive or a coeliac needing to have all wheat & gluten(and gluten associated products)removed from their diet as this can be potentially unhealthy to them as it would be for us to digest these things. Especially for children who are at risk of not getting all the nutrients they need in their formative years.

All the best,
Susan
