Is There A Link Between Autism and Gluten Allergies? Can Your
Diet Help?
Autism and gluten allergies ...Dealing with the
hurdles autism brings up in every day life, well read on, and learn
about the links between autism and wheat allergies. Did you know that
thousands of parents are implementing a Casein-free and Gluten free
diet to help ease Autism symptoms in children.
What exactly is a Gluten and Casein Free Diet?
Well a gluten
casein free diet, means the removable of these common gastrointestinal
allergens from the diet. This is done by cutting out Wheat and Dairy
products for a month to determine if the child is:
- Responding better to there environment.
- Looking healthier in they eyes.
- Experiencing less painful bloating and gas.
Eliminating
these food groups (wheat and milk) does not have to be a bad
experience, most people see dietary change as expensive, time
consuming, and stressful, viewing it as a last resort, but its not that
hard.
Autisim and Alternative Medicine
Relieving autism symptoms does not mean medicines, medicines
that
could contain gluten of casein, which could make the condition worse,
by putting another allergen into there system. Even worse yet they
could be prescribed hyperactivity, or psychotropic drugs which could
end up disabling them more.
What Studied Have Been Done On This Subject?
Many
studied and surveys of Autistic children have found very few showed
celiac disease symptoms. But in saying this, many of the children had
symptoms amounting to Aspergers syndrome', which is not completely
autistic, will find relief from their symptoms, even with
allergies
which seem unrelated, simply by switching to a diet which is
wheat and
milk free.
This can be an easy process, with stores
catering specifically to food allergies. A number of stores have a range of great snack food
and treats, and the best
thing is, so many taste better then wheat and dairy ever could.
- Do
note that autism, cannot be cured by dietary change, but
many children
with Aspergers Syndrome did find relief with dietary change.
- Make sure
you have your child's small intestine checked for food
malabsorbtion.
- Not all doctors pick up on this condition, or try and cure
it with
dietary measures, and medicine is not necessarily the answer.
- Autism
is not an easy illness to deal with, its a lifelong illness, and
anything that can help should be welcomed.
- So do not be afraid to try a
dietary change, and see if it helps the health of your Autistic child.
