consequences on retaking gluten
by Monica Fernandez
(Switzerland)
My 20 month son had a blood test done and it came out he was positive for allergies to gluten. Another doctor said she was not sure and told us to start giving him gluten again so she could do new tests.
Wew had stopped giving food with gluten for a month now. Yesterday we gave him bread and a croissant and 3 hours later he threw up three times heavily, past the afternoon very tired and only wanted arms. At 8 o'clock he had 38,1 C of fever and at 2 o'clock in the morning it went up to 40,1 C.
Is this a possible reaction to an allergy to gluten?????
Thank you very much,
Monica Fernandez

Hi Monica,
This could certainly be a gluten reaction. I had a friend who was on the road for work and dined out at a restaurant with "gluten free bread" when the meal arrived she complimented the waitress on how great it was they were supporting gluten free people. She thought it looked very much like normal bread but after having a 10 minute convo with the waitress trusted it was gf.
After 1/2 a piece of toast and about 10 minutes she felt sick and went to the counter to verify with the staff... but was sidetracked by the overwhelming desire to vomit and had to run to the toilets where she was violently ill for 30 minutes... she spent the rest of the day feeling tired, grumpy, energy less and with that brain fog you get when gluten gets you.
If i ate pasta or gluten free bread I imagine I would react similarly + eczema and a upset tummy!
