Free Beverage Review
Since you have been diagnosed with gluten intolerance or coeliac diease
have you been wondering what you can drink. I know people often ask me
a number of questions when it comes to finding gluten free drinks like:
Is
budweiser beer gluten free?
Gluten
free drinks alcoholic and non alcoholic?
Does
mocha have gluten in it?
There are a number of gluten free beverages out there, Both hot and
cold, acoholic and non alcoholic.
- Water - being the most obvious choice tap, mineral or ever
flavoured is usually fine, there is not gluten in water and its
definatly something you need to be drinking.
- Pure Fruit Juice - If its pure it should have no gluten
just flavour vitamins, minerals and natural sugars. Becare of anything
made from concentrate or smoothies as sometimes these have extra
ingredients... always check lables or ask what is in them.
- Milk - another great gluten free options, but if you suffer
from other intolerances soya, rice or goats milk could be an options
(becareful of vitasoy as I hear it has gluten in it)
- Probiotic Drinks seem to be a new trend for getting good
bacteria back into your body, check labels but these should be gluten
free.
- Plain or herbal teas should be gluten free but there can be
some issues with cross contamination.
- Plain coffee is gluten free as is milk but be carful with
other flavourings like chocolate topping on cappacinos, some syrups if
they are malt based and vending machines can be an issue if they used
powders with wheat based thickeners.
- Chocolate drinks can be an issue watch out for malt, pure
cocoa powder if fine but check out drinking chocolate as this can
contain wheat.
- Fizzy Drinks - These are usually gluten free, but I like to
be safe and always read the labels, watch out as some sweetening syrups
can sometimes be sources from wheat.
- Cider, Sherry, Port and Liqueues are sometimes gluten free.
Be sure to read ingredients as anything containing caramel colour could
be derived from wheat statch, this is a minute amount not enough to be
considered detectable but could effect the hypersenstitive.
- Wine should be gluten free
- Spirits should be gluten free as long as no gluten is added
after the distillation process (but this can be subjective to the
quality of distillation). Watch out for cocktails as they may have
gluten products added.
- Gluten free beers availability is slowly growing.
- Avoid Barley Infused Fruit Squashes, Malt based drinks,
gluten mixers, most beer, larger and ale.
Whats the best gluten free beverage you have ever tried?
Drinks can be some of the best gluten free options, when you pop out, or head to your local grocer. So what gluten free beverages do you think are best? Do You prefer a certain brand of coffee? Tea? Orange juice. What gluten free drinks would we find in your pantry?
