Gluten Free Calorie Counting

by Gluten Free Kiwi
(Christchurch.)

Hi Everyone... I am considering setting up a little calorie counting/snack ideas/ meal ideas page on gluten free kiwi.

To take a look at the calories in gluten free foods... and also because I would like to shed some weight... and I think posting this online will keep me accountable.

If you would be interested in me adding this to the website please leave a comment below and I will take a show of hands to decide what to do.

Gluten free calorie Resource
by: Gluten Free Kiwi

Just stumbled across this a few months ago care of my sister. Its a calorie counting (free) website where you can store your food dairy and add in products you eat.

Lucky for me someone who is from nz and is gluten free has added a lot of the gluten free breads, baking mixes and other products so its easy for me to search and look for calories in a serving size.

I also use it to work out the calores in meals I cook.

www.myfitnesspal.com I recommend it... if you have a smart phone there is a cool app as well.

Sue as far as Scotland... ive just got back but have not been to Dundee so im not sure. Did find a gf pizza place in edinburg though

Gluten free calorie counting

Hi, just wondering if this is still going to be put on site. i.e list of calories in gf food. I would imagine different brands of a product could vary also.
I am leaving on June 19th for Dundee, Scotland and wonder if anyone knows of a good source for gf food and also a really nice Restaurant where I can celebrate my birthday with my daughter and wee grandchildren.

Gluten free and Healthy.
by: Kandi (19yrs)

I am a Vegetarian that's turning Pesce-tarian under my doctors advice and etc.
I've struggled a lot with my weight.
I've not really had a problem with being underweight but I've had a lot of deficiencies and metabolic problems.
I've been keeping a food diary for the past few years to assist with making sure I am eating enough and of the right foods.
Before I was told Iwas a celiac I used to eat low gi foods as I didnt want to gain too much weight like in my family genetics.
I find being on a celiac's diet, there are high gi foods everywhere, especially the 'glten free' versions of 'normal food'. A lot of people eat mainly rice or potato starch based products, as its the main alternative of today, yet it causes weight gain.
Others can just simply not substitute for wheat based products and end up going overboard with negative or low calorie diets and continue being underweight.
I'm still searching around to better my own diet, I hope what I've said is useful, if anyone wants more information i can share plenty.

Thanks for reading, Kandi.

I'd be very interested in people sharing their knowledge about this. Like many other coeliacs I spent a long time being underweight and after going gluten free put weight on. I'm also not a meat eater so vegetarian information would also be helpful.

Gluten Free Calorie Counting

Great idea! I and many other coeliacs have found weight gain to be a problem; it's as though our bodies, having been unable to absorb nutrients for so long, have now gone into overdrive. I am also in the 3% that had their thyroid affected and I've found the weight gain the most depressing factor of my 'Gluten free' life.
Thanks again Gluten free Kiwi,
Susan

Hi Susan... Totally with you on this one.

Plus the lack of fibre and copious amounts of sugar in 'gluten free' packaged foods is astronomical.

I just started writing in a notebook my calories... at its shocking... no wondering I am carrying the extra weight.

Thanks for the support.
