Gluten Free Drexels Christchurch

My young daughter loves the gluten free pancakes at Drexels. They also have gluten free waffles and toast. Unfortunately their Maple syrup is not gluten free, but my daughter still loves their pancakes.

I tried the pancakes here the imitation maple syrup that comes with the meal is not gf but they did have real maple syrup which you could buy (think back then it was an extra $2 but that was a few years ago) which was gluten free.

I am not sure if this is still the case.

Does it really have gluten?

im sure there maple syrup is GF anyways - it probably says it has wheat in it from the caramel colour - which is true but it is so processed its GF etc

check out the maple syrup at the supermarket (cant remember the name) but one of them says its got wheat but its just the couloring.....think about it?

Waffles!

Drexels has recently become a favourite brekky place for my partner and I, so when I went GF it was a sad Sunday for brunch. Fortunatly Drexels does yum GF waffles that have great texture (often lacking a GF baked stuff), and have great accompaniments like fresh blueberries, yoghurt and fruit. You can pay extra for GF maple syrup. No biggy. As to the extra cost for GF items, I think this is fair as the ingredients for GF food in restaurants prices far beyond wheat options. Why should they gracefully cater to our dietary needs, but not charge for their cost - last time I checked this was customary for food service.

I gratefully accept their contribution to Chch cuisine, and suggest trying them out!
Also note, for a GF girl, great place to take your wheat eating partner as they never fail to provide an awesome quantity of food for the guys - hard to come by in a place that also has GF!

Drexels have GF options for pancakes, waffles and toast. it was explained on ordering the Gf waffles that the syrup on the tables isn't Gf and you need to order real maple syrup as an extra, $2.10 for three teaspoons (25ml) not enough for one pancake! the pancakes are nice, but are quite dry. the GF toast is excellent though.
sadly they do make a charge for exchanging standard items in set meals for the GF option.
we had a nice meal,there were four of us (2 GF, 2 wheaties) but won't be hurrying back soon.

Gluten Free Drexels

Sadly this is a common occurrance where cafe's, etc have great gluten free menus but slip up on the accompaniments! To have GF pancakes and waffles yet not have the maple syrup GF is crazy!
We certainly need to ask all questions and educate these places, while showing appreciation for what they are providing.
