With
Valentine's
day
on its way, my mind often turns to baking for a loved one.
I hate
getting caught up in too much commercialism so a small
treat like
chocolates or baked goods seems like an excellent way to a
loved one's
heart. But what if they have allergies?
I know my
boyfriend hates the idea of cooking for me as he fears
poisoning
me. The last thing he wants to do is make me ill. If you
need some Valentine's Day Inspiration read on...
CANDY CANDY CANDY CANDY! Sometimes I find eating candy to
be like
playing roulette. If I have not had a chance to read the
label of a
party mix before it is placed into the bowl on the table
in front of
me, I wrestle with my conscience weighing up if its worth
having a gluten
hangover should the lollies come from wheat glucose. If
ever I sample this
possible forbidden fruit.
Being Gluten free doesn't mean carrot sticks and celery
for Thanks Giving.
Turkey, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, marshmallows,
pumpkin pie, I
am salivating just thinking about the amazing food and the
stretchy
pants I will need to wear as I ingest them
The
Jewish festival of Hanukah is one of the easiest holidays
for
gluten-free diets. Potato latkes (pancakes), one of the
classic Hanukah
foods can be easily made into a gluten free treat by using
gluten-free
flour or potato starch instead.
When
I was first diagnosed gluten free, I found Christmas lunch
and dinner to
be depressing. When visiting extended family, the vast
majority of the
food was on my naughty list and my Christmas food would
normally
consist of ham, peas and potatoes.
So I was inspired to create a Gluten Free Christmas
Cookbook that is filled with gluten
free (and some dairy free) options for Gluten Free
Christmas Dinner to
give you a little inspiration. This means you can still
indulge without the guilt.
The best thing is the food is so good that even a gluten
eater will
love it.
Birthdays are a time for celebration...
and CAKE! Getting your icing fix does not mean eating
gluten! I have
found gluten free cakes and cupcakes to be some of the
easiest items to
bake gluten free and these are excellent things to serve
at birthday
parties or meals with friends and family.
The dress, the tux, the invitations... THE
MEAL! Feeding allergic people at weddings does not have to
be
stressful. Food allergies are becoming more common these
days and many
catering companies are able to provide gluten free, dairy
free, egg
free and nut free option assuming you give them advanced
notice.
Remember to ask your guests if they have any allergies
when they R.S.V.P
so you can organize your menu....
Gluten free expo's are becoming more common with
foods,
bakeries and
books popping up all over the world. I will try and
update these as I
hear about them. But I have also started a page where
you can add and
comment on any expos you have heard about or attended.
