Gluten Free Shampoo, Conditioner and Skin Problems

by Jeanette
(Christchurch)

Tricho sensitive shampoo by De Lorenzo. This product does not have laureth sulphate in it (I was told that this is what causes the problem, it is a wheat protein).

I have been using the shampoo and conditioner for about 3 months now but I am starting to get some skin problems on my shoulders and tops of my arms.

I have always had problems and have tried many many shampoos all of my life with the same problem, after 6 weeks I start getting spots on my shoulders and arms.

I am keen to hear from anyone who has found any other alternative.

Tricho sensitive is also getting hard to find, a lot of the salons are no longer stocking it.

Problems too
by: Katrina

I am having problems with shampoo as well. I get spots (large pimple type things) around my hairline & on my back & clevage. Never had this problem before. Extremely scaly scalp & itching.
I changed shampoo to pps sensitive & it appears to be worse.
Am heading to a health shop next I think.

Gluten Free Conditioners
by: Gluten Free Kiwi

Hi Jeanette,

I find Gluten Free Conditioners are pretty hard to find myself. Hydrolized Wheat Protein seems to be in almost everything.

I was at the hairdressers recently and she showed me a product called Kerastase Oleo Curl - They also made a hair treatment which appeared to be okay (as alot of them have wheat protien in them to strenghten the hair...although wheat makes mine very brittle).

I am VERY prone to skin allergies, ingrown hairs, ecezma and cuts and scratches from wheat based beauty products and hair products and found this one has been great, my scalp is fine. It is a little bit pricey but I think I might have to invest as I have dry curly hair and I only seem to wash it once or twice a week so it should last.

I feel for you with skin allergies from shampoo and conditioner... it has taken me YEARS of thinking I just had dandruff to figure out it was gluten causing me discomfort.

I have also had success with Tigi the anti frizz one in the yellowish/peachy color, and andrew collingwood anti frizz conditioner.
