Hi
I will be visiting New Zealand durling March from UK with my son and Daughter-in-law. We will be hiring a camper van so we can see as much of your beautiful country as we can in 3 weeks.
I have Coeliac Disease. Will I be able to buy gluten free products in the supermarkets etc?
Have you any other advice? I have looked at your 'eating out' pages - very helpful - thank you, and made notes!
Many thanks

Hi Fiona -
You certainly will be able to find gluten free food in New Zealand. Most Pak N Save, Fresh Choice, Woolworths, Countdown, New World supermarkets have a gluten free section where you can buy pastas, breads, biscuits, cereals, muesli bars, spreads & Jams, Sauces, Pack mixes, baking mix...
You will also find on the shelves a number of products that are naturally gluten free and labeling rules in New Zealand mean products need to state if they have gluten in them.
You will also note that the following food chains have gluten free options.
Burger Fuel (burgers, shakes, chips)
Hell Pizza (pizzas)
Coffee Culture (friands & Muffins)
Taj Mahal (indian food)
Brumbies Bakeries (gluten free bread)
Robert Harris (gluten free menu)
Coffee Club (paninis some cakes)
The best idea is to get on the internet and see whats out there, there is a gluten free fish and chip shop in colombo st in Christchurch which is great!
New Zealand cafes seem to be pretty good with gluten free.
I really struggle when traveling (the states and the UK) were really hard so I lived on fresh fruit and starbucks :) and lost a lot of weight carrying my big pack.
Good luck in your travels - I would love a UK perspective on gluten free - so please send in your reviews of any gems you find on the way.
