Perfect Veggies Every time with a
Gluten Free Steamer.
One of
the things I love about gluten free cooking is getting back to the
flavour of our ingredients... not more sugar packed sauces full of MSG
and other ... well dare I say Crap!!! One thing I will never do without
is my Gluten Free Steamer.
I think I use this almost every day, its the best way to enjoy fresh
produce and lock in the flavour... I like my vegetables to have a
little bite... and steaming is a great way to lock in the nutrients and
flavour
So which steamer is superior... there are a range of products out
there... and I have tried a number of them. Steamers come in all shapes
and sizes:
Microwave
Steamers
There are normally made of plastic, you put a little water in the
bottom layer, then there is a grated layer that you place your food on,
and the hot water steams through the grates to soften and cook your
food.
Metal Pot
Steamers
These normally fit into other pots in the kitchen, they have a few
small holes in the bottom to let the steam through, you place water in
the pot at the bottom, put the steaming pot on top, and place the pots
lid on for a few minutes until your vegies are cooked to perfect. It is
always important to put a decent amount of water in the bottom so that
you do not burn the pot.
Electric
Steamers.
These plug in at the wall, have a spot to put the water and may have
one or two tiers to fit all of your food into, they are great for
cooking a range of vegies and there are a number of different brands
out there.
Have you got a good steamer? We would love to know what brand it is and
how you think it stacks up, please add your review or comment on the
ones below if you have tried one.
