Glutenzyme Plus

Glutenzyme Plus

I stumbled across this product earlier in the month and was interested in seeing if anyone had tried it.

"What is BioCare Glutenzyme Plus?"
BioCare Glutenenzyme Plus is a supplement which provides high potency gluten digestive enzyme blend (including cellulase, amylase and lactobacillus probiotics) that may assist in supporting healthy digestion of gluten containing foods and normalising the intestinal response to gluten. This can be extremely helpful to those with gluten sensitivity and Coeliac Disease.

I sent out an email out to readers to gauge there reactions to this product

Great Product!
by: Tanya

I tried this for my 12 yr old daughter who is not Coeliac but is gluten intolerant. It worked really well the first few times we tried it as a single use thing- absolutely no effects from eating gluten were felt. However, we did get a bit slap happy with our success and tried taking it three days in a row on three separate occasions- this seemed a bit much , and the tablets maybe could not cope with the "buildup" of gluten (?) Anyway she certainly suffered after that. So, I suggest it works really well for one off, occasional use which is now how we use it. I am not sure I would be happy taking the risk if I was actually Coeliac, however.

some people may still have reactions for other reasons like steak eggs and chips may be also your gallbladder is a bit dodge. esp that high fatty food. but it worked for me :) but i still have other intolerances which most of us will if you are that sensitive to gluten thus your body is under more stress than average joe so you are more likely to suffer from gallbladder/liver, hayfever dairy etc but everybodys different as well.

Works for me
by: Anonymous

I'm gluten intolerant, and have used Glutenzyme Plus on several occasions. It works for me as long as the amount of gluten in the food is not too high (eg, a lot of bread).

Glutenzyme Plus uses all natural ingredients, so I consider it safe. I was absolutely delighted to find this product, as it allows me to eat most "normal" food. However, I still generally eat GF, and only use Glutenzyme Plus as the need arises.

Gluten intolerant people might also consider Radiance "Digest Gluten", which is a very similar product (it even looks the same). Digest Gluten also uses only natural ingredients. It costs less than Glutenzyme Plus, probably because it doesn't have the lactobacillus.

I prefer Glutenzyme Plus because I'm also lactose intolerant, and the lactobacillus helps break down lactose.

In summary, I would recommend either product to anyone who's gluten intolerant.

Great for Gluten Intolerance
by: C

I am gluten intolerant, and am able to have a very small amount of gluten in my diet before the side effects start. I found these were brilliant, best burger and chips ever with very little side effects. but I think will only be using as a every now and then treat.

Definitely makes a difference!
by: Anonymous

My family and friends don't think about me being gluten intolerant and occasionally I get cravings for nice bread rather than nasty dry GF bread, so I'm not completely GF 100% of the time. So I have been experimenting a bit and if I eat say a sandwich or pancakes after taking one of these the usual problems are barely noticeable, if I react at all. However after several days in a row where I couldn't avoid full gluten meals I found that after the week I was a bit crook, although I have to say even then the reaction was more like if I'd had one bowl of pasta rather than several meals in a row of gluten and still relatively mild so that is a big plus for me. These are definitely worth having in your pocket.

The jury is still out.
by: Paul C

Hi I bought this product about 2 weeks ago and have used it twice.
Once with a burger and fries and it worked good, alot of gurgling going on in my stomach but no usual gluten effects.
The second time I had it was at a restaurant having steak, eggs, chips and it had no effect. I had my usual reaction to the cross contaiminated fried chips. Sore stomach and diarehea for days!!
In saying that I will try them again, as like other people have said. It would be good to use at times when your not sure if your gluten free meal is really gluten free.

these tablets, are a 'godsend'
by: Steve

Hi Lucy

I am GF and have tried these tablets, are a 'godsend'. I only use if I am eating out (especially family/friends that are not familiar with GF).

I still find that if I eat cereals, breads, pasta that are not GF I suffer.

These tablets ease the amount of symptoms suffered. Do not use for every meal! just when you know that eating GF may be impossible eg evening meals. Truly recommend.

Use With Caution
by:

In my opinion these tablets I would useful if you were using them when dining out where there could be a risk of cross contamination in the kitchen.

Now I am NOT saying go out and eat a big bowl of glutenous fetticinni and bread sticks.

But rather if something like this helped it would be great for when you are traveling and do not have full control over your food.

There are both celiac and gluten intolerant people in this website - so it is nice to discuss the product with a view of both conditions.

Gluten Digestion Tablets
by: Anonymous

I would never try anything in tablet form like these Glutenzyme plus, patients with Full Blown Coeliac Disease SHOULD NOT take anything like this because of the serious side effects, you should just stay on your gluten free diet.

Natural Digestion
by: Diane

Thanks for your heads-up about Glutenzyme Plus.
It would be wonderful if it works as promised.

I have not heard of this product before, but am currently trying a "Good Health" product called Natural Digestion which makes the same claims
and has similar ingredients, but have not fully decided how effective it is. I think it is helping.

Natural Digestion is available through the Health 2000 stores. The shop assistant said that it was very popular, so that's a good sign, although the skeptic in me says she would say that.
Thanks for the newsletter.

Gluten Defense
by: Kelly

I've used one called Gluten Defense whilst travelling in America and it was great - but not to be used as a replacement of a gluten free meal. It is used for when you accidentally eat food containing gluten. It apparently breaks down the amount of gluten in a meal so if you only have a minor alergy then it may work fine but I found it still didn't provide enough of a breakdown for me.

Try it out and see what happens - you will know straight away if it's not going to work.

Good luck.

Help with cross contamination
by: Sarah

Yes, but it would be good to take if you were going out for dinner and were worried about the risk of cross contamination while still eating a gluten free meal. I bought some the other day, 30 for $30. I just tried it 10 mins ago.

Not For Celiacs
by: John

I think it should be made clear to anyone with Celiac disease that this is not a solution for you, and you need to continue your gluten free diet!

I take something like this product called: Wobenzym N
by: Cecilia Cheng

I take something like this product called: Wobenzym N

It's a protein digestive enzyme that is enteric coated (not broken down by stomach acid). If it's not enteric coated, it won't work because the drug is destroyed by stomach acid before it has a chance to work.

I take it whenever I think I have been exposed to gluten and I think it does help. Of course, you can't take this and eat a regular sandwich. But if I'm eating out and want some extra insurance, I take it.

Since it's a digestive enzyme, you can't take too much, or it does a number on your digestive tract.
