How Do I Know If Its Gluten Free Vinegar?>

Hi there, when products list vinegar as an ingredient, do you assume that's its white vinegar, i.e. do they have to state if its malt? also I am confused about caramel?

If I see just the word vinegar on a list of ingredients I always assume that its malt vinegar and won't touch it, although common sense tells me that they should have to declare any wheat content on a label anyway. I am so sensitive I am not willing to take the risk. I don't buy anything with vinegar in it unless the label specifies what sort they have used.
