I just found out that i have to eat Gluten Free food only and am freaking out... how hard is it? I have to do it as after being very sick for 7 months the doc worked out that i can not eat wheat and have to go Gluten Free .

I mean is there a book that tells you what to buy and what not to buy at the shops? I was looking at some of the questions below, do i need to change my shampoo etc as well? Is this going to cost me a lot off money?

Did any one find it very hard to change?
I guess i am just looking for more info this page is good but just a bit worried in how much this is going to change my life...

Its not too hard
by: LESLEY

I havent found being GF too hard. I have to read all the packages of food I buy to ensure there is no wheat in the foods.

Gluten free pasta and bread is easy to get. The biggest problem is eating out. However I find more and more places serve GF options and I have found the people who share their favourite places on here make it easy.

its not a diet, its just a few different choices.

G.F freak out
by: Frith

Hi Jess,

I have recently been eating Gluten Free and felt similarly when I was new to it. It is not hard, there are many everyday foods that aren't affected by Gluten, meat, fish, veggies, fruit, rice, nuts and seeds, dairy ......

There are also great G.F products available, pack n save have a good selection. They are more expensive that the 'normal' gluten containing products but it is so worth it to feel well again! Within the G.F products some are cheaper than others, I have changed my diet so I'm not relying on breads and pastas as a staple anymore.

I have lost weight (a good thing for me) and feel much healthier. I know that there are G.F cook books although I havn't felt the need. Best of luck and enjoy feeling good!

Gluten Free Is Not That Hard It Is Just Changing The Way You Approach Food
by: Gluten Free Kiwi

Hey Jess,

There is no need to freak out, going gluten free is a big change, but its nothing that you can not handle.

I recommend this book "Are you gluten sensitive?" By Dr Rodney Ford. - You can buy it online from Oamaru Pharmacy Here Is The Link
http://pharmacy-shop.oamaru-pharmacy.com/product1693.html

Its the first book I brought after finding out I had the allergy, and gives you ideas about shopping, basic recipes, and making changes.

With regard to food, if you are cooking you can make substitutes, gluten free pasta, or flour, you will have to be careful about sauces, thickeners, and stocks.

But there is some good gluten free breads, and cakes out there.

Hell Pizza, Burger Fuel, Nandos, Winnie Bagoes, Lone Star, Coffee Culture, Starbucks, Muffin Break, all offer gluten free food. Along with New World, Countown, Woolworths, Pak 'n Save, Fresh Choice, New Zealand is definitely on to it when it comes to gluten free.

With regard to shampoo and skin care it depends, some people get skin allergies (I suffer from ecezma and itches) when they use gluten shampoo or condition, while others are fine. It depends on what works for you, and its trial and error.

I would start by process of elimination and see what works for you.

That book should help, and I try and put reviews and information up on here when ever I can.

I try and stay away from highly processed foods... when and doubt... meat and vege or a good roast with gluten free gravy are a great start.

Good luck, and if you have any more questions... use the contact form on the site and we can chat!

Kind regards,

Lucy Ross
