is a blood test possible to show you are coeliac?
I have been told from a blood test I am coeliac and yet I am being told you have to have a biopsy to be told you are and the blood test shows you are only highly gluten free.
Is this true ? Is my Doctor just saying I am because of a high blood test result of gluten?

Hi Gary
The reason for the biopsy is to see if you have any gut damage, as celiac can interfere with the gut and nutrient absorption... this can lead to a range of health issues in later life because your body is not getting the vitamins and minerals it needs. - This is the test to confirm you are celiac but will not confirm if you are gluten intolerant.
Do you mean your IGA and IGG levels were high?
I had the blood testing 6 months after going gluten free and allergy was still showing in my system, I am gluten intolerant, so never had the biopsy although I have family members that did.
Biopsy or not I am committed to the gluten free lifestyle as I strongly believe that my body does not like gluten.
Your doctor is most likely seeking confirmation that you are indeed celiac, and if you are, gauge the extent of damage to the gut.
