1/10 people have some sort of allergy to gluten, and it does not help that manufacturers import modified flours with extra gluten to make bread and baking look better and have a better texture.
There is no hard and fast rule about gluten intolerance being heredity.
Personally in my family I was the first daignosed with gluten intolerance, dairy intolerance, and a sensitivity to sugar. If I look at my parents
Dad is gluten/dairy intolerance
Mum is dairy/sugar sensitive
My sisters both can not eat pasta's/white breads without stomach issues - but choose to go on a low gluten diet rather then a low gluten diet.
If you are unsure you could try a low stress diet to see which foods are putting stress on your body an immune system (this is the diet I did for a few weeks when it was suggested I might be gluten intolerance and it helped me figure out which foods upset my eczema and make me grumpy)
