is it possible that the gluten free foods dont agree with me due to my IBS

by Natalie

Hi,

I have been gluten free for a few months now after determining i have an intolerance - i was great for the first few weeks. However, recently my bloating issues have come back as well as my general IBS sympotoms (constipation, pain, wind)

- i think i am eating too much maize/corn based products now, as most gluten free foods seem to be corn based - is it possible that the gluten free foods dont agree with me, due to my IBS?

If so, what can i do, as i cant win if i have both IBS and gluten intolerence!

Thank you in advance

Hi Natalie,

I appreciate what you are saying and I can level with your regarding gluten free foods and horrible side effects.

I find if I "replace" glutenous food with there gluten free alternatives e.g.
pasta v.s. gf pasta
biscuits v.s. gf biscuits
bread v.s. gf bread

I feel very average.

Instead I try and eat naturally gluten free foods rather then processed ones where possible.

I still like to have a gf pizza or gf cake or toast now and then but I have stopped making these foods staples in my diet.

Instead Rice/Potato/Chickpeas/Quinoa are great options and easy to cook and make meals with.

I also like to take a probiotic to support my digestion.

You could have a problem with starches in general.

I get sensitivity to starch so I try to eat small portions of things like gf bread/potatoes/rice (1/2c to 1c) If i pig out on chips or risotto I find I get very tired and cranky.

This cookbook is a life saver for people with multiple allergies
Paleo Cookbook It is a back to basic approach to eating with lots of natural ingredients (and heaps of taste).

Do you eat a lot of starches? Carbohydrates?

Do you find you have a lot of "Gluten Free" packaged foods rather then foods which are naturally gluten free in your diet?.

Hope this helps.
