All the research i have found tells me that this grain is gluten free I have been using it without issue. I was advised recently from a forum that the Coeliac society have suggested that its not a suitable Gluten free product - Can anyone explain the reasoning?
Answer:
Years back someone made this suggestion and it was circulated through the gluten free community.
As far as I am aware there was never any scientific basis for this suggestion most likly it became and issue because of cross contamination of the product on gluten proccessing lines. Anyway, for a while the rumour circulated widely, but was eventually debunked.
These days quinoa is widely accepted as being gluten free. This said, quinoa apparently has high oxalate levels that some people may not tolerate. If you do
find references to it not being suitable for a gluten free diet, it is likely that these will be historical and without any real evidence.
I think you should able able to continue using it without any concern.
And its a great crunchy light food to put in cereals, salads and cooking.
