My Story

I've always had a lot of headaches and never really known why. For many years I've taken pain killers of various decrees on and off until one day I was talking to my daughter in law who has endometriosis and she said she had been going without gluten to see if it made any difference. At this stage I knew nothing about gluten.

anyway i thought if it can work for her maybe i will try it. I cut out all bread and gluten products but it was really hard because i was hungry all the time. I did however feel so much better and the headaches weren't so bad.

I tried going back to normal living but i got headaches straight away and then i knew i really did have a gluten intolerance. I have been gluten free for about 2 years now.

i do still struggle with things to eat as our budget does not allow for a lot of gf products. I had a go at making my own bread, I occasionally make gf biscuits which my children love to eat.

i also modify a lot of normal recipes to make them gf, like chocolate pudding but it is hard being the only gf member of the household. I definitely look at all those gluggy things in the supermarket like raspberry iced buns and think yuk! In fact I don't even like my children eating them.

The hardest thing I find is when you need to buy something for lunch on your town day, or needing to make something quick for lunch because you've been busy and forgotten to put the brown rice on.

I've only found one bread that tastes really nice but it's $10 a loaf. the loaf i must say is bigger than most gf breads, it looks almost normal and tastes delicious. It's from the Thoroughbred Range made in Levin.

Being gf is a lifestyle, you have no option but to stick with it, it's your life!
