I'm so pleased you found out about your child while he is so young, as the doc at the hospital said it will have an effect on his mental and phisical development. But now you can look forward to a happy and healthy child with normal mental and physical development. Just remember he can't even have one crumb of wheat and don't even buy him hot chips as the oil will of been used to fry other things as well such as batter which is made with wheat and believe me thats all it will take to make him sick.

It will be interesting - 4 y/o son 2 days into GF by: Leah
I myself have been GF for the last 8 1/2 months after becoming really ill (hospital care for 3 weeks) after the birth of my last child. Overthe last 1 1/2 years I have been trying to get help for my son who is now 4, turning 5 in April.
Some of his symptoms of why I took him to the specialists was poor weight gain, anxiety, sore tummy at times, weird poohs, very selective on food consumption, tires easily, over heating, developmental delays speech, sensory issues, etc, etc. Some of these may not be related of course.
On his first lot of bloods his minerals were mostly low, iron, etc around about 4. He sugars are also on the higger side. He was given a iron supplement but of course if he had the allergy it would not be absorbed well anyway. The next lot of bloods he had 2 undertake I asked if they could test him for gluten allergy. Got some of the results back and a positive blood result for celiac (100% needs biopsy), low iron & minerals again- seeing this I am 100% positive myself that if I let him have the biopsy it would show this as it did 4 myself.
He is starting school in April and I have decided that he is not to undergo the biopsy, as it was distressing enough having 4 people and myself hold him down screaming for the blood tests. So it has been 2 days now and he is doing pretty well really, still early days I went and got a iron supplement and he again is taking that, it may take awhile for the iron to be absorbed as only early days but I wanted him to get a good start before starting school.
We will probably get more bloods done in a few months to see what the GF change has done to his minerals and antibody results, we would of had to get this done months after the biopsy anyway. But i am not having him be on a long waiting list and then to be told what I have suspected anyway. So this will be a lifelong journey for my man and I but it has to be done.
