I am into week 3 of going GF and I feel terrible, have a bad foggy brain which I never had before and I am putting on weight which I can't afford to do - all the things I thought would end! Is this common? When will it improve?

Hi Maddie,

Can you give me some examples of the types of things you are eating - sometimes simply replacing gluten with 'gluten free substitutes' is not the best - I find I have a sensitivity to starch - plus buying all gluten free processed products is exspensive

You could trial a low stress diet - this is where you eat only foods which will not stress your body out for 6 weeks then slowly introduce things 1 by one to see what your allergic to - this way you are eating unprocessed naturally gluten free products.

Or Paleolithic eating is another great natural way to eat gluten and dairy free.

Hi
Are you sure everything you eat is GF? Why i ask as is it's everywhere and maybe something with small amounts may be still in there, and as you decrease your gluten your sensitivity increases. Maybe you should keep a strict food diary and get soemone to check it..I has about 2 months of trial and error, and mine was easy to track as withing 12 hours i have a migraine. Also many of the gluten free foods are high in sugar, ie biscuits, so make sure you are eating enough protein also.
Good luck.

Thanks for responding. I have simply changed my bread to GF bread/GF pancakes, for the rest I am doing mostly fresh unprocessed foods with care to eliminate all GF condiments. I think this is more of a detox reaction rather than an allergic/intolerance reaction to something new? What kind of detox reactions to gluten can one expect?
