Hi Lucy,
As promised here is some information on what is available "gluten free" in Norfolk.
We had a lovely relaxed time there and I was really impressed at the good availability of not only a complete Gluten free section in the one only supermarket, but found gluten free bread made to order at the Bakery in the supermarket mall and also at the Pizza place.
I had taken my own ( from Original Bread Co. - I love their bread!) and did wonder how zealous the Bakery, etc would be with flour fall out, baking so many other products. However I was told there are many coeliacs on the Island and the bread at the bakery looked an excellent size at only Aud$4.50 (Price In March 08 Subject To Change).
Norfolk Is. Coffee house did great Gluten free toasted sandwiches and a yummy chocolate brownie,
Cafe Tempo did divine salads and two varieties of friands as did The Olive.
It appeared all restaurants were able to adapt meals; the Garrison did two divine gluten free desserts and as this is where we coeliacs usually miss out, my husband kindly ordered the second choice so I got to try both!
Branka house and Dino's and Seaworld were lovely restaurants to go to and the island boasted it's own superb winery ( I did take my own crackers to this.)
Although I didn't have time to try them, I was told that Gillies Fish Shop did gluten free batter, etc and although a little apprehensive we did do one of the highly recommended Progressive dinners and I was given a gluten free platter of my own for "nibbles" at the first house and accommodated at every course, including even a self saucing pudding; this was with Bounty Excursions.
