Waiting for specialist appointment , can I reduce my gluten intake while waiting?

I am feeling really tired all the time, can fall asleep during the day easily, am on iron supplement and folic acid. Have just tested positive by G.P for coeliacs.

Have been referred to the hospital to see a specialist and so forth. I would dearly love to change my diet and feel better.

I know you can't as it alters the gut etc, can I reduce my gluten intake , and just eat a little each day to try and feel human again while waiting? I don't know how long appointment will take , could be months.
Thanks Teresa

Giving up v. diagnosis NEW
by: Sylvia

Hi

Reduce your daily intake maybe but don't give up entirely. If coeliac disease is indicated it's a whole lot more difficult to diagnose if you are already wheat free. I went wheat free for 3 years before I was finally diagnosed with coeliac disease, but by then it was a really drawn out and expensive process to find out definitively. A Diagnosis for Gluten Intolerance may a different kettle of fish altogether - no experience there.

Giving up gluten NEW
by: Lesley

You know unless you totally give up gluten you will never feel well if it is a problem for you.

I would get a blood test done through your doctor now for Celiac and then give it up totally. Giving up some is like giving up none. It might not be as bad but your body reacts on the slightest bit of gluten if you are intolerant.

I have given up trying to be tested. I know gluten is problem, the only cure is to eliminate it, I did, and I feel so much better.
